The purpose of dress and appearance standards is to create uniformity across the service, good order, discipline and among other things, help instill a sense of military pride and improve public trust in the U.S. Armed Forces.

In a deployed location, garnering public trust is a key component to mission success.

"Dress and appearance is important especially in a deployed location," said Airman 1st Class Rashaun Robinson, 332nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron entry control specialist, deployed from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickham, Hawaii. "We are constantly interacting with people from other countries, and we need to show a positive example of what professional Airmen look like. This aids our credibility."
